Kim Petras has sampled the iconic dance song "Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay for her upcoming collaboration with Nicki Minaj, titled "Alone"

In an interview, Petras expressed her love for the iconic dance track, stating that she "wanted to be a raver" when she was a kid, and sampling "Better Off Alone" in "Alone" allowed her to pay homage to that era of music.

Kim Petras has returned to the club scene with her latest single, "Alone." Teased on TikTok for weeks, the dance banger features Nicki Minaj and was officially released on Friday.

The euphoric track, where Petras sings about letting go of inhibitions, cleverly samples Alice Deejay's iconic 1999 trance hit, "Better Off Alone." This nod to Petras' German roots and love for Euro pop adds a nostalgic touch to the song.

"I'm from Germany. So it's kind of a no-brainer that I love Euro pop. That song 'Better Off Alone' by Alice Deejay has been around. It was probably playing the first time I went to a club, and I probably made some bad decisions to that song and had some great moments to that song. So that's why I have so many memories with it," Petras shared exclusively with PEOPLE.

Kim Petras expressed her honor and excitement over being granted permission to sample Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone" in her latest single, "Alone." She highlighted the significance of the track as a club classic and shared her personal connection to dance music, revealing that she always wanted to be a raver as a kid.

Petras reminisced about her teenage dreams and how, once she was old enough to experience the rave scene, it had somewhat faded in Europe. The sampling of "Better Off Alone" in "Alone" allows her to bring those nostalgic elements into her music, creating a bridge between her past aspirations and the present.

Regarding her collaboration with Nicki Minaj, Petras expressed that working with Minaj was a long-awaited dream come true. The collaboration marks a significant moment in Petras' career, teaming up with a fellow artist she admires and respects.
